Event Information
About This Event
The WOW 5K Run For Wilmington & Kim Forte Walk inaugural race took place in 2011. After the tragic loss of fellow community member Kim Forte, who was well known for biking and walking the streets of Wilmington, it was decided name the walk portion of the race in her honor. This family event attracts over 500 participants and is a cornerstone fundraiser for WOW.
We have also been able to give back to dozens of other non-profits in Wilmington with a portion of the registration fees. This event also gives us a moment to continue to share Kim Forte’s message of “Skip, Smile, and dance through life, this is not the dress rehearsal” and enables us to support the Kim Forte Memorial Scholarship, helping a student at Middlesex Community College, where Forte was a professor.

About We're One Wilmington
We’re One Wilmington was founded by a small group of friends with the desire to support our community through acts of kindness. Having been buying and wrapping holiday gifts for local families for several years, it was decided to continue these efforts year round. In the fall of 2010 we officially became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and named ourselves “Women of Wilmington” – WOW for short. We had the simple but powerful mission: to strengthen our community one good deed at a time. Our name changed to “We’re One Wilmington” – still WOW – in 2013 to encourage membership among men and children.
WOW currently has over 400 members of all ages and genders. Membership is free and open to anyone who wants to enrich the lives of those in our community. The only expectation is to come with an open heart and to participate in at least two activities per year. WOW is funded entirely by the generosity of our members, sponsors and two large annual fundraisers: The Festival of Trees and the 5K Run for Wilmington/Kim Forte Walk.
Our fundraisers enable our non profit to:
- Award scholarships to high school seniors
- Fund Boston Museum passes via the Wilmington Library
- Provide holiday gifts for local families
- Collaborate with other non-profits to support the needs of families in Wilmington
- Provide enrichment programs for Angels in Motion
- And much more
